Team USA has been hit with another Covid-19 related concern as they were set to travel to Tokyo for the Olympics on Monday. USA Basketball announced that Chicago Bulls star Zach Lavine had been placed in health and safety protocols, leaving him unable to travel to Japan on Monday.
First reported by Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press, the team remains hopeful that Lavine will be able to join them later in the week. Forward Jerami Grant, who was also placed in health and safety protocols this past week is set to return to the team and travel with them to Tokyo.
Lavine is coming off a season where he was selected to his first career All-Star appearance averaging 27.4 points, 5 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game.
