Cam Akers tears Achilles; out indefinitely
The LA Rams have been dealt a major blow to their 2021 campaign just one week before the start of training camp. Running Back Cam Akers has been ruled out for the entirety of the season after tearing his Achilles tendon while training, per Tom Pelissero.
Akers was headed into his 2nd season with the team and had high hopes amid the restructured offense and new quarterback Matthew Stafford. Akers was a 2nd round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and showed plenty of promise during his rookie campaign. He finished his first year with 625 rushing yards on 4.3 yards per attempt. The only knock on Akers was his inconsistency during the season, having just one total 100-yard performance on Thursday Night Football vs. the Patriots.
Darrell Henderson, who started in place of Akers last season when he was dealing with separate injury issues, is set to be the most likely main RB for the Rams. Henderson finished last season with 783 total yards with 6 touchdowns on just over 150 touches in 2020.
